Sudha Raghuram is a dedicated Bharatanatyam instructor, dancer, and choreographer, currently based in Montgomery, Alabama, where she serves as the Artistic Director of the Shivalaya School of Dance. She received her early training in Bharatanatyam in India as a child. Beyond Bharatanatyam, she also embraces Kathak, contemporary dance, and various folk dances of India. Raghuram commenced training students in classical Bharatanatyam in 1992, and many of her students have since completed their Arangetram (dance debut). She is known for choreographing several dance dramas, including "Panchatantra," "Punyakoti," and "Cinderella," and organizes an annual recital for her students. Her contributions to dance have been recognized through various accolades, including multiple Folk Arts Apprenticeship grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts since 2000. In 2013, she was awarded the Dance Fellowship and was selected for the Alabama Touring Artist Program, enabling her to perform Indian classical dance in public schools across Alabama. She was also part of the Alabama Bicentennial Dance Project by the Alabama Dance Council. In 2018, she was invited to perform at the Nupura dance festival in Bengaluru, India. A significant recognition came in 2019 when she received the prestigious Alabama Folk Heritage Award. Raghuram has been featured in the TV program 'Journey Proud' and is an active board member of the Alabama Dance Council.
