🪔 About

Sudha Raghuraman is a distinguished Carnatic vocalist and a prolific music composer for Indian classical dance, particularly Bharatanatyam. Born into a family of eminent musicians, she received her initial training in Carnatic music from her grandfather, Sangeetha Bhushanam Shri O.V. Subramanyam, a doyen of the Tanjavur bani. She also trained in violin for eight years under Guru V. Janakiraman, giving her arangetram in 1989. Although initially trained in instrumental music, her passion for vocal music led her to pursue it, eventually becoming a sought-after soloist and a prominent voice in dance music. Raghuraman's career as a vocalist for dance began in 1994, and she has since composed music for numerous dance productions, collaborating with renowned dancers such as Leela Samson, Geeta Chandran, Justin McCarthy, and Rama Vaidyanathan. Her unique ability to blend robust energy with meditative stillness, coupled with her adherence to 'sruti' and 'laya', characterizes her music. She is recognized for her creative flair in composing for dance, with over 200 recordings to her credit. Sudha Raghuraman continues to perform, compose, and teach Carnatic music in Delhi, contributing significantly to the classical arts landscape. Awards & Honours: Ustad Bismillah Khan Puraskar (2013), Delhi Yuvakalakar, Chitra Kala Sammaan.
