Suganda Sreenath is a celebrated and renowned Bharatanatyam artist, synonymous with the classical dance form in the Bay Area of the United States. Her extensive training began under her guru and elder sister, Ananda Shankar Jayant, and continued with the esteemed duo Shantha and V.P. Dhananjayan. Sreenath has consistently pursued her artistic development, continuing to train under Katherine and Kunhiraman of Kalanjali Dances of India, and further refining her understanding of natya choreography with the Dhananjayans. Throughout her career, Sreenath has actively worked to popularize Bharatanatyam, giving numerous dance demonstrations in both India and the United States at various educational institutions. She is also a prolific choreographer, having created several classical dance ballets, including "Dasavataram," "Ezhum Malare Ezhil Malare," "Dances of India," "Bharatanatyam Then and Now," "Four Seasons," "Guru Vandana," and "Prakriti," alongside other classical, folk, and semi-classical pieces. Driven by a passion for the art and a commitment to imparting her knowledge, Sreenath founded her dance school, Jayendra Kalakendra, in Secunderabad, India, in 1989. Upon her relocation to the United States, she re-established the school in the Bay Area, where it continues to operate. As of 2011, she had completed 28 years of teaching. Jayendra Kalakendra is dedicated to preserving and promoting India's rich cultural heritage by nurturing young talent, providing intensive training in both the theoretical and practical aspects of natya. Sreenath encourages her senior students to choreograph their own dances and ensures that students of all levels have opportunities to work with eminent dancers and choreographers like the Dhananjayans and Dr. Anita Shanmuganathan.
