Sundara Swaminathan is a distinguished exponent of Bharatanatyam, recognized for her contributions as a dancer, choreographer, and dedicated teacher in Indian classical dance. A graduate of the esteemed Kalakshetra in Chennai, India, she received her training under the legendary Guru Rukmini Devi and other prominent teachers at the institution. Swaminathan's performances are noted for her expressive eyes, graceful movements, and precise footwork, earning her acclaim in both India and the USA. In 1989, she founded the Kala Vandana Dance Company, also known as Kala Vandana Dance Center, in California, USA, establishing it as a premier performing arts institution in the region. Through Kala Vandana, she aimed to impart dance as a holistic life education, emphasizing hard work, discipline, and the realization of one's potential beyond just performance. Her teaching philosophy focuses on enabling students to excel without competition and to understand the profound influence of dance in shaping their lives. Sundara Swaminathan has choreographed and presented numerous productions to Bay Area audiences, including "Shraddhanjali," "A Child's World," "Return to Tradition," "Lord of Dance," "Dasavataram," "Glory of Muruga," "Tales of Temple Dance," and "Gopika Krishna." She has also organized fundraising events for various causes.
