🪔 About
Sushmitha Parthasarathy is a dedicated Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and the founder of the Abhinaya Performing Arts Centre, also known as Abhinaya School of Dance, located in Oakville, Canada [1, 2]. Her extensive journey in dance began in 1986 [2]. She commenced her Bharatanatyam training at the tender age of four, initially under the tutelage of Vidvan K. Kannan [2]. Her classical education continued under Professor Dr. K. Kumar, a distinguished figure who is a disciple of Uma Rao [1, 2]. Uma Rao, in turn, received her training from the legendary Rukmini Devi Arundale, the founder of Kalakshetra and a pivotal figure in the revival of Bharatanatyam [1, 8, 9, 13]. Sushmitha Parthasarathy also received further instruction from Smt. Nandini [2]. She holds a Diploma in Bharatanatyam from Prachin Kala Kendra in Chandigarh, India [1]. Born and raised in Mysore, Karnataka, India, Sushmitha Parthasarathy has a rich performance history, having participated in numerous dance performances and solo presentations across India [1]. She continues to showcase her artistry through solo performances in both India and Canada [1]. In addition to her accomplishments in classical dance, she possesses a strong academic background, holding a Bachelor of Commerce from Karnataka State Open University and an MBA in Human Resources from Sikkim Manipal University [1]. In 2016, Sushmitha Parthasarathy established the Abhinaya Performing Arts Centre in Oakville, Canada [1, 2]. The centre's primary objective is to teach and promote the Bharatanatyam dance form, diligently upholding the traditional "Guru-Shishya Parampara" (the sacred tradition of succession from guru to disciple) [1, 2]. As a highly trained and experienced instructor, she is deeply passionate about Bharatanatyam and committed to nurturing students at every stage of their dance education [2]. The Abhinaya Performing Arts Centre welcomes individuals of all ages and backgrounds, from beginners to advanced practitioners, aiming to foster an appreciation for India's rich artistic heritage among the Canadian community [1, 2].
