Swagata Banerjee is one of today's leading Odissi dancers, known for blending tradition, aesthetics, and movement to make dance accessible, relevant, and meaningful. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Moksha Academy of Odissi Dance, where she trains and mentors dancers from diverse backgrounds, fostering a vibrant and inclusive community dedicated to the preservation and evolution of this classical art form. Banerjee's artistic journey began with training under Guru Manimala Chakraborty and Dr. Aditi Bandyopadhyay, followed by over two decades of mentorship under Guru Rina Jana. She currently continues her artistic development under the guidance of Guru Bijayini Satpathy. With 26 years of experience, Swagata Banerjee integrates Odissi dance into early childhood education to support fine and gross motor development, particularly for children with special needs. Her approach emphasizes culturally responsive and inclusive practices. Her artistic explorations extend to engaging with diverse musical genres through the lens of Odissi, bridging cultures while maintaining the integrity of the classical form. Her contributions to cultural education have an international reach; she was invited by the governments of Mexico and Belize to showcase Indian classical dance and engage in cultural exchange. Her artistic journey was also featured in the documentary film "Three Worlds One Stage," produced by the University of Colorado Denver. Born into a family of artists, she was influenced by her mother, Smt. Srilekha Bandyopadhyay, a renowned vocalist. She has performed at various national and international festivals and events.
