Sweta Ravisankar is a Bharatanatyam and Nattuvangam artist, teacher, and choreographer with over three decades of experience in Indian classical dance. Based in Beaverton, Oregon, she is the founder and artistic director of Sarada Kala Nilayam (SKN), which also has a presence in the Bay Area, California. Ravisankar holds a Master's degree in Bharatanatyam and an MFA. She received her foundational training in Bharatanatyam from Guru Smt. Padmini Radhakrishnan of Soundarya Natya Kalalaya, Mumbai, starting in 1993. Later, she continued her advanced studies with Guru Smt. Roja Kannan in Chennai from May 2009. Her rhythmic skills in Nattuvangam were profoundly influenced by her father, Mridangam Guru S. Ravisankar, who follows the Palghat Mani Iyer Tradition. Since her arangetram in January 2001, Ravisankar has performed over 150 solo recitals in prestigious venues across North America and India, including various Natyanjali Festivals. She is recognized for her demanding rhythmic precision, physical intensity, and emotionally resonant performances, which remain true to the subtlety and depth of Bharatanatyam tradition. Her choreography often explores contemporary themes such as identity, community, mental health, and pandemic resilience, skillfully weaving them into the classical margam structure. She has taught Bharatanatyam for 17 years, focusing on rhythmic precision, storytelling, and emotional expression, and has trained students across India and the United States. Ravisankar is also a recipient of the Senior Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and numerous grants from arts organizations in Oregon.
