Tamanna Rahman is a celebrated Manipuri dancer and choreographer, widely recognized as a leading figure in classical dance in Bangladesh. Her journey in dance began in early childhood, inspired by her mother, Anwara Rahman. After completing her graduation from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in 1992, Rahman pursued extensive training in India. She undertook a rigorous six-year program in Manipuri dance in Kolkata, supported by an ICCR scholarship from the Indian government. She furthered her academic credentials by completing a Master's in dance from Rabindra Bharati University, where she secured the first position in her program. Her esteemed gurus include Kalavati Devi, Padmashri Darshana Jhaveri, and Guru Bipin Singh. While Manipuri is her primary focus, she has also honed her expertise in other classical dance forms such as Odissi and Kathak. Throughout her career, Tamanna Rahman has presented numerous spectacular dance recitals both in Bangladesh and internationally. She performed alongside Guru Kalabati Devi in Tagore's dance drama 'Chitrangada' at prestigious venues across India. In 1998, she founded her own institution, Nrityam, dedicated to promoting and teaching Manipuri dance. Her commitment to education led to her appointment as a lecturer in the Department of Dance at Dhaka University in 2015. Rahman is known for her grace and modesty, and she has dedicated herself to teaching and inspiring generations of dancers, choreographing several dance dramas for her students.
