🪔 About
Veronica Simas de Souza is a Kathak dancer, described as a young exponent of the North Indian classical dance style and the only professional South American dancer to have graduated in this form. Her artistic journey began at an early age with ballet and Peruvian folkloric dances. She then dedicated 15 years to the professional study of oriental dance and music, specializing in Egyptian classical and folk dances under the guidance of masters such as Raqia Hassan, Tito Saif, Hoda Ibrahim, Amany M. Farouk, and Mohamed Farouk, as well as musicians Mohammed al Sayed, Hany Morgan, Mustafa Sinna, and Majid Javadi. Her profound connection to Kathak was solidified after witnessing a performance by Sunayana Hazarilal, which inspired her to commit to a lifelong study of the dance. Veronica trained intensively in Kathak with Padma Shri Sunayana Hazarilal. She completed her Rang Pravesh (debut performance) in 2013. Following her debut, she organized a tour throughout South America in 2014 and 2015 to promote this dance style. Veronica Simas de Souza is recognized as a performer, choreographer, and instructor. She has a diverse dance background that includes Middle Eastern, modern, and Latin dance forms. As an educator, she engages with various communities, fostering high levels of artistic endeavor and critical thinking. She has conducted workshops, including an intensive Kathak & Odissi workshop in Lima, Peru, in August 2014, supported by the Indian Cultural Centre. She also performed in Koh Lipe, Thailand, in March 2014.
