Farah Yasmeen Shaikh is an internationally acclaimed Kathak artist, recognized as a performer, choreographer, and educator. Born and raised in Salinas, California, to Pakistani immigrant parents, she began her Kathak training at the age of 18 in 1996, while attending San Francisco State University. Journey Timeline
1996
Began Kathak training — Started studying Kathak with Pandit Chitresh Das at San Francisco State University.
1998
Joined Chitresh Das Dance Company and began teaching — Became an apprentice in the Chitresh Das Dance Company and an instructor at Chhandam School of Kathak.
1999
Began national and international touring — Started touring with the Chitresh Das Dance Company.
2007
Debut solo performance (Arangetram) — Performed her debut solo in October, supported by an ACTA Apprenticeship award.
2015
Began extensive work in Pakistan — Started performing and teaching extensively throughout Pakistan.
2016
Founded Noorani Dance — Established her own organization, Noorani Dance.
2018
Awarded SVCreates SVLaureate — Received the 2018 On Stage artist award from SVCreates.
