Having spent 4 decades in the field of Indian Classical Dance Guru Dr. Uma Kallakuri is internationally well known soloist - Performer Par Excellence, Master Choreographer, Senior Teacher, Dance Historian, published Author, Empanelled Artist of ICCR [Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India] and ‘A’ grade artist of Indian National Television network.She holds a PhD in Comparative study on Dance and Yoga from the prestigious Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad, India. Uma researched and proposed a New Technique for “Natyayoga” [Yoga of Dance] based on the book of Indian Dramaturgy “Natyasastra”. This pioneering work in the field of dance is highly acclaimed all over the world & Uma’s published book “Natyayoga” is an approved text book at the University level. She also has 2 Master of Art Degrees in both English & History. Dr. Uma is one of the very few in the Indian Classical dance World known for preserving and performing the special items in the Temple Traditions where the dancer draws the pictures of Lion and Peacock with feet while dancing. She was hailed as a child prodigy, received a gold medal in All India Dance Competitions and is the recipient of ‘Best Teacher award’. Uma is an iconic figure inspiring the present and future generations of Indian Classical Dance world.
