Rajika Puri is an internationally acclaimed exponent of Indian classical dance, specializing in Bharatanatyam and Odissi. 1983
Received MA in The Anthropology of Human Movement — From New York University, specializing in meaning in movement and hasta mudra system.
1986
Debut on Western stage — Played 'Narrator/the goddess Kali' in Julie Taymor's "The Transposed Heads" at Lincoln Center Theater.
1992
Moved to Mumbai — Resided in Mumbai for six years.
1998
First presentation of "Flamenco Natyam" — Presented at the Works & Process series of the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
1999
Joined ARUNA tour — A program fusing European overtone music with Carnatic vocalist Aruna Sairam's singing.
2000
Participated in Aruna's tour of Spain — Aimed for future collaborations related to Flamenco Natyam.
2005
Explored American song and Odissi with Nora York — Presented "Union/Severed" at Asia Society, NY.
2005
Founded Rajika Puri and Dancers — Her company began creating thematic evening-length productions.
2007
Presented "Conversations with Shiva: Bharatanatyam Unwrapped" — Performed at Joyce SoHo.
2008
Presented "Devi-Malika: a garland of danced stories on the feminine divine in India" — Performed off-Broadway at Duke on 42nd.
2008
Gave lecture/demonstration on Odissi — In preparation for Nrityagram Dance Ensemble's season at the Joyce Theater.
2009
Presented "Tapasya: Ascetic Power and Tales of the Ganges" — Performed at Joyce SoHo and on film.
2011
Gave "Ted India" talk — On "The Importance of Myth."
