Rukmini Rasiah, affectionately known as 'Amma Rasiah,' was a pivotal figure in the establishment and promotion of Indian classical dance, particularly Bharatanatyam, in the United States. Early 1980s
Invited to relocate to America — Invited by Swami Satchidananda to establish a Fine Arts Society in Yogaville.
1983
Left Sri Lanka — Relocated from Sri Lanka due to political upheaval.
1984
Fine Arts Society of Yogaville inaugurated — The Fine Arts Society of Yogaville was inaugurated under her leadership.
1988
Met the Dhananjayans — Meeting with the Dhananjayans led to the idea of summer Gurukulam camps.
1989-2013
Managed Annual Bharatanatyam Summer Camps — Managed the Natya Adhyayana Gurukulam with Gurus Padma Bhushan Sri VP and Smt Shanta Dhananjayan.
1990-1994
Organized Bharatanatyam Teachers Workshops — Organized Residential Teachers Workshops with Guru Padmashree Adyar K Lakshman.
2008
Received Integral Yoga International Lifetime Achievement Award — Also received the title 'Guru Seva Ratna'.
2018
Became a centenarian — Honored with the title 'Satchidananda Padma Shiromani' on January 22.
2023
Passed away — Passed away on August 26 at the age of 105.
