Sukanya Burman is an accomplished Indian classical and contemporary dancer, choreographer, and arts leader, born and raised in Kolkata, India. She began her formal dance training in Bharatanatyam at the age of three under Smt. Molly Roy, and later earned an Advanced Diploma from Kalamandalam Calcutta between 1999 and 2005. 2011-2013
Diploma in Contemporary Dance and Movement Arts & Kathak training — Completed at Rhythmosaic Dance Company, Kolkata, India.
2012
International Performance Tour — Performed with Rhythmosaic Dance Company in 'Swan Lake-Revisited' at Det Kongelige Teater in Denmark and toured Europe.
2013-2014
Independent Training Program — Completed at Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, New York City.
2020
Moved to Jamestown, NY — Began living in Jamestown, NY full-time.
2021
Resident Artist — Chosen for the Curriculum in Motion at Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival.
2022
Recipient of NYS Choreographer's Initiative Grant — Selected as one of 13 NY-based choreographers.
2023
Founded Sukanya Burman Dance — Established her 501(c)(3) non-profit contemporary dance company in Jamestown, NY.

Award Recipient — Received NYSCA's Support for Artists in Folk and Traditional Arts for 'The Bayadere: The Past, Present, and the Future'.
