Amit Kumar Sahu is a distinguished exponent of Seraikella Chhau, a captivating and semi-classical masked dance form that originated in the Seraikela region of Jharkhand, India. Recognized by UNESCO, Seraikella Chhau is celebrated for its powerful movements, intricate footwork, dynamic drumming, and expressive storytelling, blending martial arts with theatrical elements. Amit Kumar Sahu stands as a torchbearer of this rich tradition, representing the fourth generation of a revered artistic lineage. He is the son of the esteemed Guru Malay Kumar Sahu and the grandson of the legendary Padma Shri Guru Kedar Nath Sahu, whose family has been instrumental in preserving and promoting Seraikella Chhau for decades. Based in Seraikela, Jharkhand, Amit Kumar Sahu has dedicated his life to the practice, instruction, and propagation of this unique dance form. His commitment to the art is evident in his role as a performing artist and a dedicated dance instructor. In November 2007, he founded the Parampara Dance Academy in Seraikela, India, an institution through which he imparts the traditional techniques and nuances of Seraikella Chhau to aspiring dancers. He continues to lead the academy, fostering a new generation of artists. Earlier in his career, from November 2007 to September 2012, he also served as a Performing Artist at the Trinetra Chhau Dance Center. Amit Kumar Sahu's academic background includes a Bachelor in Arts (B.A.) from Kashi Sahu College, Seraikela, Ranchi University, where he actively participated in cultural events. His artistry and dedication have earned him international recognition. Amit Kumar Sahu has proudly represented India on global platforms, notably at LISAN XII – the International Seminar and Festival of Oral Traditions held in Jakarta. Alongside his father, Guru Malay Kumar Sahu, he presented and demonstrated the intricate beauty of Seraikella Chhau, captivating international audiences and contributing to the global understanding and appreciation of this profound Indian classical dance heritage. Through his continuous efforts in performance, teaching, and institutional leadership, Amit Kumar Sahu plays a crucial role in ensuring the vitality and continuity of the Seraikella Chhau tradition.
