Malay Kumar Sahu is a distinguished Guru and exponent of Seraikella Chhau, a semi-classical Indian dance form originating from Jharkhand. He is the son of the legendary Padma Shri Guru Kedar Nath Sahu, under whom he received his training. With over four decades of experience, Malay Kumar Sahu has dedicated his career to performing, teaching, and preserving the traditional art form. He is the Director of the Sri Kedar Art Centre, an institution he founded to maintain the original form and quality of Seraikella Chhau. Guru Sahu emphasizes the classical roots of Seraikella Chhau, linking its technique to the 108 core norms of movement mentioned in Bharatmuni's Natyashastra. He has represented India at numerous international festivals, performing in countries such as France, the USSR, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Mexico under the sponsorship of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). He also represented India at LISAN XII – the International Seminar and Festival of Oral Traditions in Jakarta alongside his son, Amit Kumar Sahu. For his lifelong contributions to Seraikella Chhau, Malay Kumar Sahu has been honored by the Government of Jharkhand and the Minister of Culture, and is a recipient of national scholarships and fellowships from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. He continues to train young artists and promote Seraikella Chhau both nationally and internationally.
