🪔 About

Amrutha Sridhar is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer with over 25 years of experience in the art form. Raised within the Bharatanatyam tradition, she developed a deep passion for Indian classical dance from a young age. Her formal training includes tutelage under Guru Smt. Sunanda Narayanan, an acclaimed exponent of the Vazhuvoor bani of Bharatanatyam and director of the Thillai Fine Arts Academy. Sridhar showcased her dedication and skill by presenting her Bharatanatyam arangetram on September 8, 2013, at Norwood High School. Her performance, which included the grand Shanmukapriya Varnam “Devar Munivar Thozhum Padam,” was noted for demonstrating both technical capability and a profound understanding of the dance, marking a significant milestone in her journey as a dancer. Hailing from New Jersey, Amrutha Sridhar also explored other dance forms during her college years, finding enjoyment in a Bollywood fusion dance team. Her commitment to promoting Indian dance led her to join the Indian Dance Endeavor of Austin (IDEA), where she serves as the Operations Manager. In this pivotal role, she is instrumental in organizing communications that articulate IDEA's mission of spreading knowledge and awareness of dance, thereby fostering a vibrant Indian dance community. She has actively contributed to the IDEA blog, authoring insightful articles such as “Community Performance: Diwali at Brookdale Senior Living” (December 2, 2025), “Summer Workshops” (July 2, 2025), and “An interview with Founder, Vinitha Subramanian” (April 3, 2025), showcasing her dedication to the organization's outreach and educational efforts. Beyond her performing and organizational roles, Sridhar is highly skilled in hair and makeup for dancers, a talent for which she is frequently sought after as a makeup artist for Arangetrams, further contributing to the professional presentation of classical Indian dance. Her performing career also includes notable appearances such as portraying Manthara in a “Ramayana” excerpt during the “Heritage Heroines” program in New Brunswick, New Jersey, as a student of Ramya Ramnarayan's Nrithyanjali Institute in 2015.
