Anvita Sharma is a prominent Kathak artist, teacher, and the Artistic Director of Nrityanvita Kathak Academy, specializing in the Lucknow Gharana. Born in Boston and raised in Los Angeles, she has dedicated over 25 years to the art form. Anvita received her primary Kathak training under Guru Rachana Upadhyay and continues her learning journey with Smt. Durga Arya in Germany. Sharma began her teaching career in April 2007 at the HTHF Pasadena Hindu Temple, initially juggling it with a full-time career as a registered nurse. After 15 years of balancing both professions, her passion for Kathak led her to resign from nursing in 2022 to pursue dance full-time. In September 2023, with the blessings of her guru, she founded Nrityanvita Kathak Academy, an independent dance school, after having successfully run several branches of her guru's Kathak Kala Academy for over 16 years. As a performer, Anvita Sharma has graced numerous stages, including Madison Square Gardens with Pt. Birju Maharaj's troupe, JPL, USC Pacific Asia Museum, LA City Hall, Guru Kanhaiya Lal Yuva Utsav, Bhakti Fest, Shakti Fest, IJWD, and the Ratha Yatra festival. She remains a company performer at Kathak Kala Academy and is an active member of the Indian Performing Arts Center (IPAC), a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Indian culture through dance. Her academy offers a diploma program recognized by leading music institutions in India, providing comprehensive training in Kathak's rhythmic, theoretical, and expressive aspects.
