Chinta Adinarayana Sarma was a revered Kuchipudi guru, performer, choreographer, and researcher, born on August 2, 1955, in Kuchipudi village, Andhra Pradesh, India. He hailed from a traditional Kuchipudi family, the son of Chinta Radhakrishnamurthy and Seethamahalakshmi. His dance journey began at the age of four, learning from his father. He further honed his skills under the tutelage of his father's younger brother, Guru Chinta Krishnamurthy, Guru P.V.G. Sarma, and Guru Vedantam Parvateesam. A significant influence in his career was the legendary Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam, whom he considered his ideal icon. Sarma made his debut as a child artist in Kuchipudi Yakshaganams, portraying roles such as Prahalad and Chitralekha. After completing a Masters in Commerce, he dedicated himself fully to the art form, undergoing rigorous training in 1983 to become a Kuchipudi teacher. In the same year, he established Sri Radhakrishna Kuchipudi Natyalayam. He served as a lecturer in Kuchipudi dance at the Government College of Music and Dance, Hyderabad, and also worked for Telugu University for three years starting in 1989. Known for his prolific and unique choreography, he innovated stage techniques as early as the 1970s and 1980s. He earned a Ph.D. in Kuchipudi dance for his choreography of the dance drama 'Ushodayam,' which depicted the birth story of Jesus Christ. Chinta Adinarayana Sarma passed away on May 24, 2021.
