Chitra Kalyandurg is a prominent Kuchipudi performer, educator, and choreographer based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. She commenced her Kuchipudi training in 1989 and has been a student of renowned Kuchipudi artist and guru, Anuradha Nehru, since 1994, training with her for over two decades. Kalyandurg has also received training from other esteemed artists including Kishore Mosalikanti, Sasikala Penumarthi, Mrinalini Sadananda, Vempati Ravi Shankar, and Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam. She holds a Masters degree in dance from Central University of Hyderabad, India, and an MPhil in folk arts from Telugu University of Hyderabad, India. As a performer, Chitra Kalyandurg is both a solo artist and a member of the Kalanidhi Dance Company, which she co-founded in 2005. Her performances have graced prestigious venues such as Joyce SoHo, the National Geographic Society, the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, and Dance Place. In 2007, she toured India with Kalanidhi Dance, performing at the Ananya Festival of Dance. Kalyandurg has also served as an assistant choreographer for Kalanidhi Dance from 2017 to 2019. Her original choreographic works include "The Nayika Project" (2014) and "Leela: Play of the Divine" (2015). She is deeply committed to the preservation and promotion of Indian classical dance traditions, engaging with the art form as a student, performer, and teacher.
