🪔 About
Dakshina Vaidyanathan Baghel is a prominent third-generation Bharatanatyam dancer from India, born and raised in Delhi. She is the daughter and disciple of renowned Bharatanatyam exponent Rama Vaidyanathan, and the granddaughter and disciple of the late legendary Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan, a recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards. Dakshina received her foundational training within her illustrious family lineage and further holds a diploma in Bharatanatyam from Indira Kala Sangeet Vidyalaya. Her artistic journey is marked by a blend of traditional rigor and innovative creativity. She is celebrated for her graceful movements, elegant abhinaya, and original choreographies, which include notable productions such as "Newton's Law of Karma," "Cleopatra," and "Nakshatra," based on the twelve zodiac patterns. Dakshina is an empanelled artist with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and actively conducts workshops and demonstrations, traveling extensively across India through initiatives like Spicmacay. Her international performance footprint spans countries including the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and the USA. She is a regular performer at prestigious events like the Soorya Festival and the Madhavi festival. Interestingly, her background in engineering is something she credits with enhancing her creative approach to dance. While she is deeply connected to the Ganesa Natyalaya, founded by her grandmother, the sources do not explicitly state that she founded or leads her own academy. She continues to perform and teach, contributing to the rich legacy of Indian classical dance. Awards & Honours: CCRT scholarship holder by the Department of Culture, Govt. of India (2003), Kalpana Chawla Award (Young Achievers' category) (2005).
