Eun Jung Kim is a South Korean dancer who has made significant contributions to Indian classical dance, particularly Kathak. She pursued her passion for dance by undertaking extensive training in India for over 16 years. Prior to her immersion in Indian classical forms, Kim earned a Bachelor of Arts in Ballet dance from Kei-Myung University in Korea, where she also gained considerable experience in Korean traditional dance, modern dance, and ballet. Her diverse background in movement arts provided a strong foundation for her interpretive dance and world folk dance endeavors. Her journey into Indian classical dance began in 1998 when she joined Kathak Kendra in New Delhi. There, she received professional training under esteemed gurus Smt. Urmila Nagar and Shri Jai Kishan Maharaj. She successfully completed both advanced Diploma and post-diploma programs. Her dedication and talent were recognized through a scholarship granted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) for six consecutive years, supporting her Kathak studies at Kathak Kendra. Beyond Kathak, Eun Jung Kim expanded her repertoire to include other Indian classical and martial art forms. She has learned Bharatanatyam and Chhau, and studied Abhinaya from Margi Sathi in Kerala. Furthermore, she is trained in Kalaripayattu, a South Indian martial art, which has influenced her agile body language and movements. Kim is also an accomplished researcher and choreographer. She has been awarded a Junior Fellowship and Scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and a Research Fellowship from the Sangeet Natak Akademi in New Delhi. She is recognized as a graded artist of Kathak by Delhi Doordarshan. Her choreographic work includes ballets on mythological and social themes, and she recently re-choreographed the "Krishna Leela" natya ballet production. Eun Jung Kim has performed at various national and international forums, showcasing her versatility and deep understanding of Indian classical dance.
