Hamsa Venkat is a prominent figure in Indian classical dance, particularly Bharathanatyam, based in Sydney, Australia. She is recognized for her keen exploration and experimental approach within the traditional framework of the art form, consistently delivering sensitive and in-depth portrayals of her chosen subjects. Venkat received her training from the esteemed Kalakshetra School of dancing in Chennai. She is the founder and director of the Samskriti School of Dance in Sydney, an institution dedicated to nurturing dancers of all ages to perceive dance not merely as a hobby or art form, but as a way of life. The school adopts a holistic approach, training students in both the theoretical and practical aspects of dance, alongside allied arts such as music, poetry, and body conditioning. Beyond her contributions to dance, Hamsa Venkat also serves as an English teacher at Pymble Ladies College in Sydney. Her creative spirit is evident in her choreography, which has been showcased in acclaimed productions like "Kannagi Enbathen Peyare" (2022), "Abhijnana Shakuntalam" (2019), and "Utsav: A Celebration of Folk Dances of India" (2023), the latter co-choreographed with her daughter, Vishakha Iyer. She is also known for her expertise in nattuvangam, having performed it for her students' arangetrams.
