Kavya Muralidaran is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and artistic director, deeply rooted in the Indian classical dance tradition. Born into a family of artists, she is the daughter and disciple of the renowned dancing couple Madurai R. Muralidaran and Smt. Chithra Muralidaran. Her journey in dance began remarkably early, with her first performance at the age of two and a half in the presence of Dr. Kalignar Karunanidhi. She completed her Arangetram in 2005, at the age of eight, a milestone accompanied by Mrudangam Maestro Sri. D.A. Srinivas, earning her recognition as a "Child Prodigy" from esteemed gurus such as Padmashree Adyar K. Lakshman. Academically accomplished, Kavya holds a dual Master's degree in Bharatanatyam and Stage & Production Management. Her career as a performing artist has seen her grace stages across India and internationally, participating in premier dance festivals and prominent sabhas in countries including the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, Dubai, South Africa, Kuwait, and London. As a creative force, Kavya founded the VivRtti Dance Company, her own ensemble dedicated to exploring contemporary abstractions within the Bharatanatyam framework. She is also a co-founder of Gandiva, an Indo-classical contemporary band, showcasing her versatility. Kavya is a B grade artiste in Doordarshan and was honored as the Best Dancer for the HCL concert series by the Madras Music Academy. She is also a recipient of the CCRT Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, New Delhi. Based in Chennai, Kavya continues to inspire audiences and mentor emerging dancers through her performances and choreographic works.
