Koushik Das is an accomplished Odissi dancer and choreographer hailing from West Bengal, India. His initial training in Odissi was under the tutelage of Guru Rina Jana, and he continues to hone his skills under the guidance of the eminent Guru Sharmila Biswas, a distinguished Sangeet Natak Awardee. Das has garnered significant recognition from the Indian government, being an empanelled artist by the Ministry of Culture as a 'Promising Artist' and holding an A+ grading from the Eastern Zonal Cultural Center. He is also officially empanelled with the Government of West Bengal. Throughout his career, Koushik Das has performed extensively at various national festivals across India, showcasing the vibrant traditions of Odissi. His notable appearances include the prestigious Konark Festival in 2025 and the Jaipur Dance Conclave. On the international stage, he has presented Odissi recitals at esteemed venues such as the ICCR Bangkok and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Embassy of India in Bangkok in August 2025, carrying the art form to new audiences. In 2020, he demonstrated his creative vision by presenting "Shiv Shakti," a virtual dance theatre production that featured 13 performers. While his primary focus is Odissi, Das has also explored other classical forms, notably being featured in the contemporary work "Incompleteness" in 2011, where he incorporated Kathak footwork, demonstrating his versatility. Beyond his performing career, Koushik Das is also dedicated to teaching, offering online Odissi dance classes and nurturing the next generation of dancers, with his students performing on stage. He believes in the holistic development that art provides, emphasizing that dance instills discipline, empathy, and a conscious mind in children. His journey in dance has been marked by resilience, overcoming challenges where dance was not initially perceived as a viable career. Koushik Das is based in Kolkata, India.
