Meenakshi Ganesan is a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, choreographer, and the founder and Artistic Director of Kalaanjali, LLC, also known as the Kalaanjali School of Dance & Music, based in Madison, Wisconsin, with a presence in San Jose, California. She began her formal training in Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music at the tender age of six, under the tutelage of her aunt, Guru Smt. Prema Nagasundaram. Her rigorous training included living in her guru's household, a traditional practice known as Gurukulavasam. Ganesan also continues to learn Bharatanatyam from Nritya Shiksha Choodamani Guru Smt. Padmini Radhakrishnan. Meenakshi Ganesan performed her arangetram (dance debut) in 1992 at the age of 13. She holds a highly acclaimed Vishaarad Degree in Bharatanatyam and possesses a strong foundation in the Natyashastras, which she actively studies and teaches to her students. Her performing career spans over two decades, with more than 255 public performances to her credit, including approximately 55 in the U.S.A. Notable performances include the opening of the Overture Center in Madison, Wisconsin, the United States Mayors Conference, the Cleveland Aradhana Festival, and the World Music Festival. She has also played major roles in acclaimed dance ballets such as Mukti and Basant Bahaar. As an accomplished Nattuvanaar, Meenakshi Ganesan is proficient in using cymbals to generate rhythmic sounds synchronized with a dancer's movements. She has choreographed hundreds of Bharatanatyam, semi-classical, and folk dances. Since founding Kalaanjali in 2003, she has been dedicated to teaching Bharatanatyam, semi-classical, and folk dances, as well as Indian Carnatic classical music, devotional songs, and bhajans. Her students frequently perform at various festivals and community gatherings in Madison, Wisconsin.
