🪔 About
Mira Salat is a Kathak dancer, teacher, and choreographer based in London, United Kingdom. She has trained with esteemed Kathak teachers Abhay Shanker Misra and Urja Desai Thakore of Pagrav Dance Company. Salat has an extensive performance career, with over 200 live performances to her name. She has been teaching Kathak since 2009, establishing Maati House, a dance school focused on cultural heritage through performing arts, which was formerly known as Mira Performing Arts. Beyond her individual artistic pursuits, Mira Salat is also the creative co-director of Red Lotus Events (CIC), an organization founded in 2012 that creates South Asian cultural experiences in London. Through Red Lotus Events, she was instrumental in organizing "Rangeelu Gujarat," a two-day cultural exhibition that attracted 27,000 attendees and showcased over 70 international and national artists. Her choreographic work includes her first dance drama, "Swaraj," created when she was 19, and collaborations such as "Garbh" with Shyam Dattani. She is also a dancer for Pagrav Dance Company's production "Kattam Katti." Salat's work often explores the connection between Kathak and her Gujarati culture, and she has ventured into incorporating Sufi elements and collaborating with African folk dancers.
