Naren Baruah, also known as Guru Naren Chandra Baruah, is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, specializing in the Sattriya tradition. He commenced his training in Sattriya dance at a very young age within the serene environment of a satra, a traditional Assamese monastery. His foundational training in Sattriya dance and khol-playing was further enriched under the guidance of Guru Paramananda Barbayan. Throughout his career, Baruah has graced numerous prestigious festivals with his performances. He is deeply committed to the propagation of Sattriya dance through teaching. He currently imparts his extensive knowledge at Mitali Kala Kendra in Guwahati and is the founder of Nrityabhumi, a dedicated school for Sattriya dance. Additionally, he serves as a mentor for Sattriya at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Usha and Lakshmi Mittal Institute of Performing Arts (BVUSPA). His significant contributions to Indian classical dance have earned him national recognition. He was honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2010 for his excellence in Sattriya dance. He is also a recipient of the Natashri Award from the Natraj Dance and Music Academy in Visakhapatnam. As a choreographer, Guru Naren Chandra Baruah has conceptualized, choreographed, and composed music for various productions, including "Bhakta Prahlad: The Lord Who Appears for a Child's Faith," which was showcased at the International Sattriya and Traditional Meet in Dallas in 2026. His teaching legacy is evident in the accomplishments of his students, who include Bristi Rekha Mahanta and Priyakshee Kataky. Awards & Honours: Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2010), Natashri Award.
