🪔 About

Nutan Sovan Sircar is an Indian classical dancer primarily known for her expertise in Manipuri dance. She has been associated with Indian classical dance forms, including Kathak and Manipuri, since the age of eight. Nutan Sovan Sircar received her training in Manipuri dance from Sovanabrata Sircar. Her training also encompasses Thang-ta, the martial art of Manipur, and Pung, the Manipuri drum. As a noted performer of classical Indian dances, Nutan Sovan Sircar regularly features in cultural festivals and programs across India. She frequently performs Manipuri dance duets with her husband, Sovanabrata Sircar, who is also an acclaimed Manipuri dancer and choreographer. Their performances often include excerpts from the traditional Raasleela, a cornerstone of Manipuri dance, which revolves around Lord Krishna. Nutan Sovan Sircar's recitals have showcased various aspects of Manipuri dance, including lyrical movements with cymbals, and thematic pieces such as "Nanichori" and "Krishna and Balram playing with a ball". She has also performed pieces depicting Krishna's Gopis, often adorned in the traditional Manipuri dance attire, which includes an elaborate cylindrical skirt and a transparent veil. Her performances are characterized by soft feet movements, often on toes, without ankle bells, akin to classical ballet. For her production titled 'Gyanameba Balam' (knowledge is power), Nutan Sovan Sircar was honored with the 'Naatya Tarang Yuva Puraskar-2012'. She has performed at venues such as Epicentre in Gurgaon and has been featured in events in Delhi. Awards & Honours: Naatya Tarang Yuva Puraskar (2012).
