🪔 About
Pavithra Reddy is a distinguished Indian classical Odissi dancer and a prominent figure at the renowned Nrityagram Dance Village. Born in Hessaraghatta, she joined Nrityagram in 1990 at the age of 12, initially as part of its village outreach program. Her exceptional talent was recognized early, leading to her selection for individual training in 1993. Reddy received her extensive training in Odissi under the tutelage of legendary gurus Protima Gauri, Surupa Sen, and Bijayini Satpathy. She became a member of the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble in 1993, embarking on a career that has spanned over two decades. Her first solo performance took place on December 27, 2003, at the NIAS Auditorium, IISc Campus, Bangalore. As a lead dancer, Pavithra Reddy has performed solo and with the Nrityagram Ensemble at prestigious venues across India and internationally. She is celebrated for her sensuous form combined with an innocent spirit, which perfectly embodies the Odissi style. Beyond her performance career, Reddy plays a crucial role in the perpetuation of the Odissi tradition. She heads the training program in Bangalore and teaches dance in Nrityagram's residential and outreach initiatives. Known affectionately as "Pavi didi" by her students, she is also the Director of Arts in Education activities at Nrityagram, devising programs to engage and inspire the next generation of dancers.
