Ramaa Venugopalan is a distinguished Bharatanatyam practitioner, performer, teacher, writer, and facilitator, boasting over three decades of experience in this ancient Indian classical dance form. Her journey with Bharatanatyam commenced at the tender age of four. She holds a Master's Degree in Bharatanatyam, complemented by studies in allied subjects such as Indian Philosophy, Indian History, and Temple Architecture. Venugopalan's performances are highly regarded for her profound Abhinaya (expressive interpretation) and her unwavering adherence to the traditional technicality of Bharatanatyam. She is celebrated for the conviction she brings to the traditional repertoire, the aesthetic glory, and the emotional intensity evident in her solo presentations. Beyond performing, Ramaa Venugopalan is a prolific writer, contributing articles on various dance concepts and their societal relevance to leading cultural magazines and portals. She also engages in creating innovative choreographies and educational videos to demystify the complexities of Bharatanatyam. As a dedicated educator, she regularly conducts talks and lecture-demonstrations to foster appreciation for the art form among diverse audiences. Approximately 18 years prior to a July 2022 video, she established Lakshmi Kalaalayam, her dance institution in Bangalore. Through this academy, she provides comprehensive training, emphasizing traditional pedagogy to a select group of serious students, some of whom have already emerged as accomplished performers and promising artists.
