Ranjit Adhikarimayum, born in 1957 in Uripok Achom Leikai, Imphal, is a distinguished figure in the world of Manipuri Dance, recognized as a renowned choreographer, composer, and performer. His versatile talents and scholarly approach have earned him a respected position in the field. Adhikarimayum completed a certificate and diploma course in Manipuri Dance from JNMDA, Imphal. He further honed his choreographic skills by acquiring a Diploma in Choreography from Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi, under the tutelage of eminent choreographer Guru R.K. Singhajit Singh, whom he considers a significant source of inspiration. His artistic journey was also profoundly influenced by a two-decade-long association with iconic figures of Manipuri culture, including Guru Th. Tarunkumar, Prof. E. Nilakanta, and G. Surchand Sharma. Adhikarimayum's choreographies are deeply rooted in the traditions of Manipuri Dance, even while showcasing creative experimentations and a penchant for choreographic liberty. He has directed and choreographed over 18 dance dramas and numerous classical solo dance items. A widely traveled artist, he has participated in several major national dance festivals and cultural events. Beyond performance and choreography, Adhikarimayum is also a dedicated researcher and author. He has presented several seminar papers on various aspects of Manipuri Dance and has published a book titled "Manipuri Jagoigee Wahoudok Ama." He served as the Principal of the Government Dance College, Imphal, where he actively pursued research in Manipuri dance traditions. In 2023, he was referred to as the former principal of the Government Dance College, Imphal, and in 2024 as the retired principal. His contributions to Manipuri Dance have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award in 2013 and the Tagore National Scholarship for Cultural Research in 2019-20.
