Sahana Selvaganesh is an accomplished Bharatanatyam performer and teacher, primarily based in Chennai, India. Born around 1986, she has dedicated over two decades to the classical Indian dance form, receiving her training under the esteemed Guru Roja Kannan. Her career has been marked by early recognition and awards, highlighting her skill and dedication. In 2024, she was honored with the YUVA KALA BHARATHI for dance by Bharat Kalachar, acknowledging her contributions as an emerging talent in the field. Dr. Selvaganesh is also the founder of the Thandav School of Classical Dance, where she imparts her knowledge and passion for Bharatanatyam. As a performer, Sahana is noted for her engaging abhinaya and strong command over tala. A review of her 2017 performance for Natyarangam highlighted her ability to balance nritta and abhinaya, with a repertoire that included a Ranganjali, a Daru varnam in praise of the mother goddess, and a padam, concluding with a thillana by Lalgudi G Jayaraman. More recently, she has gained recognition for her innovative choreographic ventures. In February 2026, she conceptualized and choreographed the thematic production "The Weavers Loom," also known as "Tied: The Weaver's Loom," which was presented at the annual Jharna festival. This production drew inspiration from Kabirdas's song "Chadariya Jhini Re Jhini" and Sarojini Naidu's poem "Indian Weavers," using weaving as a metaphor for the human body, soul, and the intricate threads that bind women across time. It explored a woman's journey from a traditional, broken bond to becoming the architect of her own destiny, incorporating elements of struggle, perseverance, and liberation. The choreography involved innovative use of props and translated the physicality of weaving into convincing Bharatanatyam movements, underscoring her keenness to project herself as a matured dancer and choreographer.
