🪔 About
Samir Kumar Panigrahi is a dedicated and accomplished Odissi dancer hailing from Bhubaneswar, India. His journey in Indian classical dance began with foundational training at Saraswati Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, followed by further studies at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. A significant turning point in his artistic development occurred in 2012 when he commenced intensive training under the tutelage of the esteemed Guru Bichitrananda Swain at the Rudrakshya Foundation. Here, Panigrahi has honed his craft, becoming a principal dancer known for his profound expressive movements and impeccable angasuddha, which refers to the purity and precision of the dance form's postures and gestures. His talent and dedication have been recognized with a B-High grade from Doordarshan, India's public service broadcaster, and a prestigious senior scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, underscoring his commitment to the art form. As a performer, Samir Kumar Panigrahi has graced numerous national and international stages, showcasing the beauty and intricacy of Odissi. His extensive international tours have taken him across the globe, with performances in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, the USA, France, China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and South Korea. Panigrahi is a key interpreter of Guru Bichitrananda Swain's innovative choreographies, which respectfully uphold Odissi traditions while introducing fresh and captivating executions of this ancient classical dance. Beyond his performing career, he also contributes to the propagation of Odissi as a teacher. He has served as faculty, for instance, at the Broadway Dance Center, where he, alongside fellow dancer Santosh Ram, has introduced both beginners and seasoned dancers to the fundamental techniques of Odissi, covering basic bhangis (postures), mudras (hand gestures), and padas (foot positions). His notable performances include the interpretation of Adi Shankaracharya's 'Bhavani Bhujangam Stotra' at the Erasing Borders Dance Festival in 2024, a performance titled 'The Seeker: A Journey to Liberation'. He also presented "Bhavani Bhujanga Stotra" at the Chhandabibha Festival in 2023 and was part of the "KUNDALINI The Awakening" Odissi dance production in Melbourne in 2025. Additionally, he has been featured in the Udayaraag Dance Series. Awards & Honours: Senior Scholarship.
