Shweta Garg is a prominent Indian classical Kathak dancer, exponent, and educator, widely recognized for her contributions to the art form, often performing as part of the renowned "Garg sisters" duo with her sister Swati Garg. She is a dedicated disciple of the great Kathak Guru Pandit Girdhari Maharaj of the Jaipur Gharana, having been his Gandabandh shishya from an early age. Her formal training in Kathak began in 1982 at the Jaipur Kathak Kendra, and she continued her studies under Pandit Girdhari Maharaj from 1985. Shweta Garg holds a Masters (Nipuna) in Kathak dance from both Gandharva Music School and Rajasthan School of Arts, Jaipur, and has also graduated in vocal music. As a performer, Shweta Garg is celebrated for her dual talent as an excellent Kathak exponent and a brilliant folk dancer and vocal singer. Her performances and choreographies skillfully blend the sophistication of the Lucknow Gharana with the technical brilliance and precision of the Jaipur Gharana. She has performed extensively at national and international levels, including the Dubai International Festival, in Japan at the invitation of Takasaki Art Centre College, the Khajuraho Festival, and various programs organized by All India Radio, the Government of Rajasthan, and the Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Academy. She is also a regular performer for Doordarshan. In April 2002, Shweta Garg founded the "India International Institute of Kathak Dance & Music (IIIKDM)" and the "Shweta Swati & Dance Company" in Jaipur, dedicated to promoting and preserving Kathak dance. Under her guidance, IIIKDM, which is affiliated with Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal Mumbai, has trained over 2500 students, with some establishing themselves as young performers. Beyond her dance career, Shweta Garg also worked in the eight Oscar-awarded film "Little Buddha" alongside Keanu Reeves. Awards & Honours: National Scholarship.
