Pandit Girdhari Maharaj is an internationally renowned Kathak maestro of the Jaipur Gharana, recognized as a master and virtuosic performer of the classical Kathak tradition. Born into a traditional Kathak family of the Jaipur Gharana, he received his initial training from his father, Pandit Laxmi Narain Ji, and his uncle, Pandit Kanhaiya Lal Ji. He further honed his artistry under the tutelage of masters such as Pandit Shambho Maharaj, Pandit Jugal Kishore, and Pandit Brahamanan Goswami. His training encompassed both the graceful and sensual elements of the Lucknow Gharana and the dynamic rhythms and movements of the Jaipur Gharana. He also completed 16 years of advanced courses at the Jaipur Sangeet Santhan. Pandit Girdhari Maharaj has significantly influenced North Indian classical dance through his choreography, performances, and innovations. His extensive performing career includes participation in Bharat Mahotsava, international dance festivals in Japan, the Bharat Darshan program in France, and cultural programs in Nepal. He regularly conducts workshops and classes in countries like France and Germany. He has numerous Kathak-based dance and drama productions to his credit, including "Sampurna Ramayan," "Ritu Darpan," "Damyanti Swayambar," "Geet Govind," "Urvashi," "Chandalika," and "Gatirodh." A dedicated teacher, Pandit Girdhari Maharaj upholds the "Guru Shishya parampara" (teacher-disciple tradition) and has trained many successful Kathak dancers. He founded the Kathak Kendra school of Jaipur and is the Director of Shri Laxminarayan Nrityashram/Triwat. The Pt. Girdhari Maharaj Kathakaashram operates under the banner of Shri Laxmi Narayan Nrityashram, and the Girdhari Maharaj Kathak Center was established in Malviya Nagar, Jaipur, in 2018.
