Smita Krishnaswamy is a prominent figure in Indian classical dance, serving as the Artistic Director at Natyamandala, a Yale-based Indian classical dance group in New Haven, CT. She received her primary training in the Kalakshetra style from Induvadana Malli, who is the daughter of the esteemed Adyar K Lakshman. With over 25 years of experience, Krishnaswamy's dance repertoire encompasses a diverse range of pieces, including traditional margam compositions and contemporary choreographies. Her performances have graced stages in various locations, including Michigan, New York, Connecticut, and India. In addition to her performing career, Smita Krishnaswamy is also actively involved in choreographing and teaching dance. Beyond her contributions to the arts, she holds a distinguished academic position as an Associate Professor in the departments of Genetics and Computer Science at Yale University, demonstrating a unique blend of artistic and scientific pursuits.
