Smt. Mrinalini Sadananda is an internationally recognized Kuchipudi dancer, distinguished teacher, and outstanding choreographer, based in the Washington Metropolitan Area, USA. She hails from a family of artists in India; her father, Vinjamuri Parthasarathy Iyengar, was a lawyer with a keen interest in violin, and her mother, Smt. Kamala Devi, was an accomplished violinist. All her seven siblings also excelled in various art forms. Mrinalini Sadananda began her dance training at a very young age, learning from several esteemed gurus including her sister Mrs. Hemalatha Naramha Chari, Burra Subramanya Sastry, Chinta Raddha Krishnamurty, Adinarayana Sarma, Mahankali Surya Narayana, Sathya Priya Ramana, and notably, Dr. Vempati Chinna Sathyam. Her drama teacher, Sri Mandapati Ramalingeswara Rao, also played a significant role in teaching her the importance of facial expressions in dance, for which she is well-known. After emigrating to the United States, Mrinalini Sadananda continued to pursue her passion for dance, performing extensively across the country. She began her teaching career in 1979, serving as a volunteer teacher for seven years each at the Gandhi Memorial Center and Chinmaya Mission in the metropolitan Washington D.C. area. In 1993, she established Kalamandapam, a dance and music institute in the Washington Metropolitan Area, dedicated to training children in Kuchipudi dance, Carnatic Music, and Yoga, following the classical Indian "gurukul" principles. Under her guidance, Kalamandapam has staged numerous Kuchipudi ballets, including "Bharat Sambhavam" at the John F. Kennedy Center of Performing Arts, "Sarvam Vishnu Mayam," "Ramayanam," and "Andal Kalyanam."
