🪔 About
Sridevi Gopinath is a prominent Indian classical dancer and teacher, primarily known for her expertise in Bharatanatyam, with additional training in Mohiniyattam. She has been actively involved in the field of Bharatanatyam for over 24 years, establishing herself as a respected figure in classical dance education. Her extensive training in Bharatanatyam began at the renowned “Shri Bharathakala Ashram” under the tutelage of Guru Shri K Gopinathan and Smt. Sunitha Gopinathan, who are senior disciples of Padmabhushan Prof. C. V Chandrasekhar and Smt. Jaya Chandrasekhar. Sridevi Gopinath furthered her academic qualifications by completing a Master's in Fine Arts specializing in Bharatanatyam from Bharathidasan University, India, under the guidance of Dr. Maria Stella. She also received training in Mohiniyattam at “Dasyam” from Guru Smt. Gopika Varma, performing alongside her guru in various concerts and productions. Her dedication to the expressive aspect of dance led her to undertake intensive training in Abhinaya (expressions/acting) with Guru G Venu, a distinguished exponent of Kuttiyattam and Kathakali, and Smt. Ramya Harishankar, a senior disciple of Smt. Kalanidhi Mami. She completed her Arangetram at the age of 15, marking her formal debut in Bharatanatyam. Sridevi Gopinath is the founder and leader of “Sri Devi Arts,” her own dance institution based in South Morang, Victoria, Australia, which she established around 2014. The academy focuses on teaching traditional Bharatanatyam in its purest form, adhering to the Kalakshetra style. Sri Devi Arts celebrated its 10th anniversary on September 8, 2024, an event that saw performances by over 80 students. On the same occasion, Sridevi Gopinath released her first children's book, “Naatya Pusthakam,” an activity book inspired by the Abhinaya Darpanam, designed to introduce young minds to dance hastas (hand gestures). Beyond her teaching and performing career, Sridevi Gopinath has contributed to the dance community through her affiliations. She is an active member of ABHAI (Association for Bharathanatyam Artists of India) and served as the secretary of BAAVA (Bharathanatyam Acharya Association of Victoria, Australia) from 2020 to 2022. Her commitment to traditional training and her expertise have positioned her as one of the most respected and best Bharatanatyam dance teachers in her region.
