Sujatha Meyyappan is an acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and dedicated teacher, widely recognized as the Artistic Director of Kolam Academy of Dance. She established her dance school in October 2005 in Tyngsboro, MA, with an additional branch in Andover, MA, driven by her mission to propagate the divine and beautiful art form of Bharatanatyam. Over the past two decades, Meyyappan has graced numerous prestigious venues across India, the United States, and Canada with her performances, earning accolades for her versatile and vibrant dance renditions. Beyond her performances, Sujatha Meyyappan is a prolific choreographer and producer. Under the banner of Kolam Academy of Dance, she has conceptualized and presented several thematic dance programs by her students, including "Bharathy Natyam," "Shivoham," "Kavi Nrithyam," "Venil Vizha," and "Omkaram," all of which have garnered glorious reviews. Her commitment to community engagement is evident through her active participation in and co-production of fundraisers for various charitable causes, notably Vision-Aid, a collaboration that began in 2009. She co-produced the grand Broadway-style classical dance production "The Iconic Avatar" in 2016 to support Vision-Aid. Meyyappan also contributes to the cultural landscape of the New England area by serving as a Board member of the Tyngsboro Cultural Council and a Board of Director for Tamil Makkal Mandram, and by conducting lecture demonstrations at local institutions to foster appreciation for Indian culture and classical arts. Her dedication as a dancer and teacher, and her efforts in spreading Bharatanatyam, have been recognized with "Excellence awards" from organizations such as IANH and Lokvani e-magazine. Her students have achieved success in various Bharatanatyam dance competitions in the New England area, and several have successfully completed their arangetrams under her tutelage.
