Sujatha Ramanathan is a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and educator, celebrated for her artistic depth and commitment to Indian classical dance. Her journey in dance began at the age of five in Chennai, where she received initial training from various teachers, including the esteemed Padmashri Guru Adayar K. Lakshman. After a successful corporate career spanning over two decades in banking, where she rose to Senior Vice President, she returned to her passion for dance in Mumbai. Her renewed dedication led her to intensive training under Guru Lata Raman, who encouraged her to pursue higher academic qualifications in dance. She further honed her skills in abhinaya with Guru G. Venu, Mohiniattam with Dr. Nirmala Paniker, and Natyashastra under Dr. Sujatha Mohan. She is also mentored by Guru Ramya Ramnarayan and is currently pursuing Marga Nritta Karanas from Smt. Vithya Arasu and Nattuvangam training from Smt. Lata Raman. Academically, Sujatha Ramanathan holds a Master's in Bharatanatyam (Alankar Poorna from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya) and a Bachelor's in Music from Annamalai University. She also completed a Diploma in Bharatanatyam from Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth and is a graded artist of Doordarshan. Her performance career is extensive, with appearances across India, the United States, and Nepal, at prestigious venues such as the NCPA in Mumbai, India Habitat Centre, Bangalore International Centre, and various Chennai December season sabhas. She is also a prolific choreographer, with acclaimed works including "Raas Antara," "Rama Amritam," "Vidivu," "Hanumanin Thavam," "Dakshina Dwaraka," "Soorya," "Antarmayi," "Vriksha Vandana," and "Bheeja." Beyond performing and choreographing, Smt. Ramanathan is a dedicated educator and researcher. Her paper, "Life Skills and Leadership through Dance," has been published by the Sangeet Natak Akademi. She has served as a guest faculty member at IIM Mumbai, delivering lectures on "Leadership and Problem Solving through Movement and Expression," and actively promotes classical arts through NCPA's school outreach programs in Mumbai. She has received numerous accolades, including the Nritya Kala Choodamani (2018), Bharat Gaurav Samman (2021), Nritya Nipun (2022), Best Dancer (2008), and Girnar Ratna (2025).
