Vasanthy Raja was born into a family with a strong cultural and spiritual background, originating from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, a region renowned for its rich heritage in Carnatic music and classical dance. She embarked on her Bharatanatyam journey at the tender age of seven and marked her formal debut with an Arangetram at thirteen. Her dedication led her to continue learning and performing Bharatanatyam across various national and international venues. Beyond her dance prowess, Vasanthy Raja also cultivated a deep passion for music, leading her to professionally train in Nattuvangam. Driven by a profound desire to impart her extensive knowledge and passion for Bharatanatyam to the next generation, she established Ishana Dance Academy, with branches in Lake Zurich, IL, and Kildeer, IL, and Ishana Natyalaya in Peoria, IL. Ishana Dance Academy, founded with the vision of empowering children, offers a meticulously structured Bharatanatyam learning program. This program is rooted in the Kalakshetra style of instruction, which is celebrated for its emphasis on nimble movements and subtle emotional expressions, while also being tailored to suit individual student needs. Vasanthy Raja acknowledges her gratitude to her gurus, Mr. Irudhaya Nathan and Mr. Saravanan, who were instrumental in guiding and shaping her into the dancer she is today.
