Sudha Chandrasekhar is a highly renowned Indian classical dancer, guru, choreographer, and institution head, primarily known for her mastery of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. Performance for Prime Minister Nehru — Performed for India Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and New Zealand Prime Minister Walter Nash in Rashtrapathi Bhavan, New Delhi.

Moved to Michigan, USA — Moved to Michigan in the U.S.

1978

Began teaching in Michigan — Moved to Oak Park, Michigan, and began teaching at the Bharatiya Temple.

1980

Advanced training in Odissi and Kathakali — Did short-term intensive courses in Odissi under Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and Kathakali under Guru Krishna Pannikar (1980-1981).

1981

First Arangetram in USA — Performed the Arangetram of her first student in USA, Reeta Shama.

1996

World record in dance marathon — Broke her own world record in "72 Hours for the Heart" dance marathon with her daughter Vidya.

2000

60th Birthday Celebration — Her 60th Birthday, 'Shastiyabdhapoorthy,' was celebrated.

2004

Michigan Dance Council's Lifetime Achievement Award — Received the award.

2004

50th Arangetram performance — Conducted her 50th Arangetram performance.

2007

Commissioner for Oak Park Arts and Cultural Diversity Commission — Became a commissioner for the city of Oak Park Arts and Cultural Diversity Commission.
