Bhagavathula Venkata Rama Sarma is a highly revered Kuchipudi guru, dancer, and choreographer, born into a traditional Kuchipudi dance family. He began his dance training at the age of seven, receiving tutelage from eminent gurus such as his father, Sri Bhagavatula Yagna Narayana Sarma, and the legendary Dr. Sri Vempati Chinna Satyam. He holds certificates and diplomas in both Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam dance forms. Over a career spanning more than 45 years, Sarma has made significant contributions to Indian classical dance. He has trained over 25,000 students, composed more than 500 solo dance items in the traditional format, and conducted over 500 stage performances. He currently serves as a Bharatanatyam guru at GVR Music and Dance College in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. To further promote Kuchipudi, he founded the Sri Nrutya Art Academy, also known as Sri Nrutya Kalasala. As an accomplished choreographer, Sarma has directed and choreographed numerous dance dramas for Doordarshan (Delhi, Madras, and Hyderabad). His choreographic works include ballets such as 'Asta Laxmi,' 'Annamayya,' 'Leela Krishnam,' 'Kumara Sambhavam,' and a ballet based on the 'Sri Bhagvad Geeta.' He has performed Kuchipudi dance for programs organized by the Sangeeta Nataka Academy and at various South Zone events. Additionally, he acted in the dance film 'Ananda Bhairavi' and regularly participates in O.B. programs for All India Radio, Vijayawada. He also conducts summer classes for intensive Kuchipudi training for both Indian and NRI students.
