Bhargavi Gopalan is an Indian classical Bharatanatyam dancer, dance scientist, and educator. She received her Bharatanatyam training under the tutelage of Guru Jayalakshmi Eshwar and also studied with Guru K.J. Sarasa. Her academic pursuits led her to earn a Master's degree in Dance Science from the University of Bedfordshire. Gopalan further enhanced her pedagogical skills through dance teacher training with the Dance Education Laboratory in New York. Throughout her career, Bhargavi Gopalan has focused on the intersection of dance and science, specializing in dance physiology and biomechanics. Her work aims to develop techniques that reduce injury risks and enhance longevity in practice for Indian dancers. She has presented her research at significant platforms, including the National Dance Education Organization conference in 2015 and the 2nd International Health and Fitness Association conference in 2018. Gopalan is the Founder and Director of 'Bhargavi Gopalan Dance,' an institution that integrates the Kalakshetra style Bharatanatyam technique with scientific principles of movement science. She also maintains a digital knowledge repository to share research-informed resources with dancers and educators. As an educator, she has developed specialized Bharatanatyam classes for adults and serves as a Performing Arts Faculty member (Dance) at Shiv Nadar School in Chennai.
