Anitha Guha is a renowned Bharatanatyam guru and a prominent non-performing teacher based in Chennai, India. Her initial exposure to Bharatanatyam came from her mother, Smt. Karthiyayini Natesan, and she later received training under Guru Govindarajan Pillai. She also had the opportunity for brief guidance from Kalaimamani Sri. Radha Krishnan and Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayanth. Additionally, she learns Carnatic music from Smt. B. Meenakshi. Guha began performing at a young age, making her first public appearance at 11, where she also choreographed her solo act. She staged numerous 'Nritya Natakams' (dance dramas) and solo performances in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, portraying significant roles such as Radha, Valli, Mohini, Basmasura, Shiva, and Urvasi. Her exceptional portrayal of Urvasi earned her the Minister's Award in 1985. In 1986, she moved to Chennai and, driven by a passion for teaching, founded her institution, Bharathanjali, in 1989. Bharathanjali has since become a foremost cultural center for Bharatanatyam, known for molding young children to professional standards. Many of her students have blossomed into accomplished solo performers and teachers, performing and teaching both in India and internationally. Guha is highly regarded as a versatile choreographer and ballet producer, with over 20 to 25 mythological Nritya Natakams and thematic dance productions to her credit, which have been performed in prestigious venues across India. She has also served as the Curator of Ilamayil Thiramai, the annual dance festival of Sri Krishna Gana Sabha in Chennai, since its inception in 2012.
