Kalyani Shekar is a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer and guru with a career spanning over fifty years as a teacher. She hails from a family of Bharatanatyam artists and is the niece of the esteemed Guru Padmashree Dandayudapanipillai, under whose tutelage she began her training at an early age, imbibing the distinctive features of his celebrated style. Shekar commenced her teaching career at her mentor's school, NATYAKALALAYAM, in Chennai, and later taught independently in Jamshedpur. Approximately forty years ago, she established her own dance school, Bharatnatya Kalalyam, in Delhi. As an authentic exponent of the Dandayudapanipillai School of Bharatanatyam, she has trained numerous students and orchestrated several performances. Kalyani Shekar is also a choreographer, having staged notable dance dramas such as “Chitrambala Kuravanji” in 1993 and “Silapaddikaram” in 1994. She is recognized for her selfless and devoted approach to fostering the growth and learning of her students. Awards & Honours: CRITIC CIRCLE OF INDIA ANNUAL AWARD (1993).
