🪔 About

Madhuri Suresh is a Bharatanatyam dancer, performer, and teacher based in Singapore. She commenced her Bharatanatyam training at the tender age of five and has also been exposed to other dance forms such as Odissi and folk dance. She is a graduate and junior teacher at the esteemed Temple of Fine Arts (TFA), Singapore. Madhuri holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from SIM, University at Buffalo, which has provided her with a unique perspective on the power of communication within dance and the arts. Furthering her academic and artistic pursuits, she is currently pursuing her Masters in Fine Arts Bharatanatyam. Her artistic journey has been profoundly shaped by her grandmother, Smt. Kamakshi Jayaraman, who served as her primary guru and was a senior dance director at TFA. In honor of her grandmother's legacy, Madhuri Suresh presented her inaugural solo production, "Kamakshi - A Dancer's Journey Within," on August 10, 2019, at the Drama Centre, Black Box. This production explored a dancer's journey of self-discovery and paid tribute to Smt. Kamakshi Jayaraman's life and contributions. For this production, she received guidance and mentorship from Priya akka and Anjana Akka, whose insights were crucial to its creation. Additionally, Lakshmi Krishnan, a senior teacher at TFA, choreographed a varnam for Madhuri, and she has performed a bhajan composed by her spiritual guru, His Holiness Swami Shantanand Saraswathi. Madhuri views dance as more than just physical movement; for her, it is a language for communication and a channel for self-expression, embracing individuals regardless of gender or background. She believes dance offers life perspectives, teaches patience and optimism, and constantly reminds her of abundant opportunities. As a junior teacher at TFA, Madhuri is dedicated to nurturing young talent and fostering a passion for Bharatanatyam in children, viewing teaching as a continuous learning process and an eye-opening experience. She aspires to discover her role in serving humanity through the arts, guided by the principle of "Art, Just for the love of it".
