Mamata Biswas is a distinguished Indian classical Odissi dancer, teacher, and institution head, dedicated to propagating the art form through her performances and her academy, Natya Niketan. Her profound journey in Odissi began at a young age under the tutelage of Guru Gaur Charan Nayak in Balasore, Orissa, where she quickly established her position within the district and state. She further honed her skills under the guidance of the universally acclaimed Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra, a legendary figure pivotal in the revival and popularization of Odissi dance. Mamata Biswas also received extensive training from Guru Debi Basu and Guru Aloka Kanungo, both frontline disciples of Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra, and she continues to train under Guru Debi Basu in Mumbai, ensuring the purity and perfection of her dance form. Throughout her illustrious career, Mamata Biswas has graced numerous prestigious dance festivals across India and internationally, captivating audiences with her refined dance style and earning critical acclaim. Her notable performances include appearances at cultural evenings in prominent venues like Birla Sabhaghar and Gyanmanch in Kolkata, international scientists' and physicists' meets in Mumbai, and various festivals in Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Gandhinagar. Her international engagements have taken her to countries such as Libya and Turkey, where she performed at Indian Embassy-sponsored programs, showcasing the global reach and appeal of Odissi. Beyond her vibrant performing career, Mamata Biswas is deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of Odissi dancers. She founded and actively runs Natya Niketan in Navi Mumbai, where she serves as a dedicated teacher, guiding aspiring talents in the intricacies and perfections of the Odissi dance style, thereby extending the guru-shishya parampara (teacher-disciple tradition).
