Guru Mulla Jafar Khan is a respected figure in Indian classical dance, particularly known for his contributions to the Kathak tradition of the Banaras Gharana. He embarked on his classical dance journey under the tutelage of Pandit Balasaheb Gokhale, following the Guru-Shishya parampara from 1975 to 1983. He further refined his skills under the guidance of Pandit Hajarilal Guruji in Mumbai. Throughout his educational pursuit, he engaged with numerous esteemed Gurus and renowned artists, immersing himself in the intricacies of the 'Janaki Prasad Gharana' dance style, which is also referred to as the Banaras Gharana. Mulla Jafar Khan is not only a dancer but also a tabla player. He is recognized for his teaching legacy, having trained several notable Kathak dancers, including his sons, Guru Mulla Afsar Khan and Guru Minhaz Khan, both of whom he initiated into the dance form at a young age. He also mentored Kathak practitioner Nivedita Joshi. His dedication to the art form has been acknowledged with the "Kala Samarpan Award." Awards & Honours: Kala Samarpan Award.
